Ready for travel time?

Summer & fall season is travel time. Even with gasoline prices high, we can’t resist the blue sunny skies and the open road.

Before hitting the road, you can take several simple precautions to keep your car  safe and save money at the gas station. Extreme heat and long drives can be very tough on cars. Under inflated tires, dirty filters, leaky radiators,  and cracked hoses can lower your fuel efficiency, or worse, lead to a total breakdown.

Why does road salt damage cars?

Normally the chemicals used on the streets during winter for ice/snow removal are sodium chloride and potassium chloride. These chemicals cause oxidation on the surfaces of vehicles. Bare metal has nothing to protect it and it will usually rust, as does any unpainted or coated surface on cars. Painted surfaces that do not have a clear coat on them could and will oxidize as well, hence the need for waxing a clean car. Clear coats will eventually get damaged as well but it takes a much longer time.

Call today the best auto body in Hydepark to find out more about our rust removal services.

What to do after a car accident in Boston

Your heart can’t stop beating, and you can’t believe you just got into an accident. Look around.  Are you injured? No, good.   Is everyone else ok? yes, Even better.   Now here’s what you need to do once everything settles down.

You should:
1. Emergency Kit in Your Glove Compartment.
Keep your auto insurance information in the glove compartment, drivers should carry a pen and paper for taking notes, a cell phone to make calls,  a camera to take photos of both automobiles at the scene, and information about medical conditions if there are serious injuries.

2. Safety First.
If the accident is minor with no serious injuries, move both cars to a safe place  out of traffic.   Leaving cars parked in the middle of the road can result in additional accidents and injuries.

3. Exchange Information.
Exchange this information: name, address, phone number, insurance company, policy number, driver license number and license plate number for the driver and the owner of each vehicle. Make immediate notes about the accident, description of each car, including year, make, model, color, including specific damages, witness information, etc.
Also the exact location of the collision and how it happened.

4. Photograph and Document the Accident.
Document the damage to all the vehicles.  You want your photos to show the overall context of the accident so that you can make your case.  If there were witnesses, get their contact information; they may be able to help you if the other drivers dispute your version of what happened.
